Broadway Theatre of Pitman Turns the Lights Back On Marquee Lighting Ceremony at 7 p.m. on August 11

Pitman, NJ - The Broadway Theatre of Pitman will host a "Marquee Lighting Ceremony" at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 11. The public is invited to join members of Pitman's Town Council, The Greater Pitman Chamber of Commerce and other dignitaries as they celebrate the night the lights came back on at the Broadway Theatre of Pitman.

The celebration will feature musical performances by the Blues Box and Pitman's own Original Hobo Band, speeches from local dignitaries and the ceremonial flipping of the switch. For details, call (856) 384-8381.

"For Pitman, this event marks the rebirth of its theatre, long viewed as the focal point of our downtown business district," said Peter Slack, President of the Broadway Theatre of Pitman. "This is our way of celebrating that we are close to reopening our doors, as well as recognizing all of the hard work that's been done by volunteers from Pitman and our neighboring communities."

Purchased at a sheriff's sale in February by Peter Slack, the Broadway Theatre of Pitman originally opened in May 1926 as a fully equipped movie and vaudeville theater with 1,090 seats, including the balcony and eight boxes. The opulent theater was created in a French Revival motif by the Philadelphia firm of Eberhard, Magaziner, and Harris. The Broadway Theatre of Pitman still has its original 3/8 Kimball theatre pipe organ. For more information on the Broadway Theatre of Pitman, please visit

In addition, on September 23, the Greater Pitman Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with Heritage Foundation, Inc., will help reopen the theatre doors with the Bring Back Broadway Gala, a once-in-a-lifetime, black-tie optional gala to celebrate the Broadway Theatre of Pitman's rebirth as the pride of Pitman. Tickets are available on a limited basis for $125 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact the theatre's customer service team at (856) 384-8381.
